Biomolecular Resource Facility

Mission

To assist investigators by providing access to cutting-edge technology, methodology and expertise in order to accurately identify, characterize and quantify molecular species.

Overview of Services

Molecular Weight Determination: from small molecules to proteins. Multiple options are available MALDI-TOF MS, infusion ESI, or LC-MS. For protein analysis, ammonium salt buffers are preferred and detergents must be avoided.

Protein Identification: Proteins can be identified either from solutions or gels by using a protease, typically trypsin, and performing MS or MS/MS. Proteins can be identified as pure, protein complexes, or complex mixtures such as cell extracts.

Posttranslational Modification Analysis: PTMs such as phosphorylation, glycosylation, acetylation, etc. can be identified directly or preferably through enrichment strategies.

Protein/Peptide Quantitation: SWATH, Label-free, isobarically labelled (iTRAQ, TMT), or SILAC labeled work flows are all supported.

Directed Proteomics: Selected reaction monitoring of peptides or small molecules is supported on our Sciex 6500 Qtrap.

Data Analysis: For bioinformatics beyond MASCOT or Sequest output, i.e. pathway analysis, statistical analysis, quantitation.

Sample Processing: Capabilities for abundant protein depletion, offline LC fractionation, 1- and 2-D gel electrophoresis, capillary electrophoresis, and PTM enrichment are available.
